CBS NEWS | 'Rolling Sixes' drops on YouTube

In an almost unprecedented move, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) has launched an original YouTube series called "Rolling Sixes," which depicts daily life at the elite fire station 6 on Oakland Drive.

KDPS Public Information Officer Zach Hamelton, who is single-handily the show's creator, producer, cinematographer and editor, came to Kalamazoo with decades of film and TV production under his belt. He has also produced another YouTube series for KDPS called "Riding With," which focuses more on police patrol.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is aiming to give people a look into their day-to-day work — in the form of a new show.

KDPS’ Fire Station 6 will be the focus in a new docuseries titled Rolling Sixes, which follows fires and technical rescues, while also introducing viewers to the crew. 

Zach Hamelton, a public information officer at KDPS, said the show will give viewers an authentic look at the people working at the station and who they are outside of their work.

If you're caught speeding in Kalamazoo, there is a chance you could be pulled over by Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Ryan Roddie. 

He spends a great amount of his time at work patrolling the busy stretches of the city. 

"I could be here [on traffic patrol], or just driving around our main areas," says Roddie. "Or a shooting [call] goes out, or a structure fire [call] goes out, and I have to quickly transition from traffic cop mode, to firefighter, or police officer responding to a possibly violent situation."
